The trestle board

Text Box: The 2004—2005 Fourth Division has a new Commander, he is Sir Knight James Shaw from Scioto Commandery #35 in Circleville, Ohio. He is currently sharing his program for the upcoming Commandery year. He envisions Sir Knights representing Commandery in each Blue Lodge, Chapter and Council within the 4th Division. Sir Knight Shaw suggests a member appointed to be a representative to each lodge to offer the presiding officer the assistance in posting colors or forming escorts and line for special occasions. He proposes the names of newly created Master Mason be obtained from the Worshipful Master or the Lodge Secretary so correspondence can be directed to the newly raised Brother. Being in attendance when the candidate is Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason and discussing with him the value of continuing his travels in Masonry. A Membership Night for all candidates, new and current members, both those who are active and those who are inactive would serve to create a venue for socialization.
On other issues, Sir Knight Shaw suggested someone present a short informational talk on the various programs Knights Templar has to offer such as Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Educational Loans and the Holy Land Pilgrimage.
On the topic of Inspections he suggest Commanders request assistance in line and other positions on a weekly notice to other Commandery Units. To encourage ritualistic excellence he felt that teams for the Order of the Red Cross and Order of Malta be formed, thus ensuring Knights Templar candidates receive the ultimate in degree work and that they receive the Orders in full form. To enhance correct form and procedures he suggested new presiding Eminent Commanders should consider assigning Past Commanders to assist him in the ritual and movements of his office.
The support of Schools of Instruction Commanders should encourage junior officers to attend them as well as inspections to observe the work performed by other Commanderies. Another thought he shared was the creation of two schools to increase the attendance with an objective toward ritualistic proficiency.
These and other challenges face, not only Knights Templar, but York Rite in general.
